Description

The Remote Sensing (RS) Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team in Aurora, CO, has a need for an Operations Transition Systems Engineer.  This individual will be a Systems Engineer with experience in Department of Defense (DoD) Space-Based systems.  Candidate will provide SE&I support to the Spaced Based Infrared Systems (SBIRS), Future OPIR and Environmental Monitoring Enterprise programs in support of the Space and Missile Systems Center Remote Sensing Directorate (SMC/RS).  Candidate will support enterprise transition activities for SMC/RS space, ground, operations, logistics, and sustainment elements to identify and support the management of risks, issues and interdependencies. Candidate should have experience with space systems, ground and space system acquisition, and systems engineering.  Major duties of the position include:

  • Supporting system engineering and integration planning for SMC/RS Enterprise space, ground, hardware, software, fixed site and mobile systems.
  • Leveraging enterprise systems engineering and integration processes to manage operational transition and fielding of the RS Enterprise space and ground system capabilities. 
  • Analyzing transition to operations plans and supporting transition reviews.
  • Supporting the successful execution of all SBIRS Enterprise engineering, integration, test and transition activities.
  • Coordinating and executing transition activities for operations related hardware, software, cybersecurity and network upgrades.
  • Providing technical oversight to integration of hardware, software, cybersecurity and network modifications focused on preventing impacts to SBIRS operations.
  • Conducting planning and scheduling analysis to manage risk and insure proper levels of margin are incorporated.
  • Interacting with the prime contractor and government project engineers to ensure system requirements are coordinated, planned and scheduled for implementation.
  • Identifying and assessing technical, schedule, and cost risk impacts to the system and developing courses of action to mitigate the risks.
  • Performing technical reviews, and assessments; coordinating analysis efforts, methods, and techniques; developing products and briefings; and performing technical engagement with, and briefings for and to, government customers, stakeholders, and the prime contractor. 
  • Identifying operational and technical issues, evaluating solutions, developing action plans.
  • Support and understand acquisition and development processes as related to transition of capabilities directly into operations
  • Collaborating with prime contractors, support contractors, military personnel, government civilians, and various mission partners.
  • Participate in Discrepancy Review boards and working groups.
  • Oversee and assist with high-level document creation and review activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. BS in Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical, Communications Engineering (technical), Math, Physics, or similar.
  • TS with the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance.
  • 9+ years of strong demonstrated systems engineering, with requirements and interface management, risk management, change boards and change board environment experience.
  • Experience managing operational transitions and fielding of complex satellite systems.
  • Knowledge of development lifecycle, project integration, schedule analysis and stakeholder processes.
  • Experience with the acquisition and deployment of space, OPIR, and ground systems.
  • Experience developing transition to operations plans, supporting design reviews and engineering boards.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Air Force/DoD customers in Operations and Sustainment environments.
  • Proven ability to provide technical analysis, program management insight and thought leadership to a government customer.
  • Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.
  • Ability to travel periodically between Aurora and Colorado Springs, CO.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Active TS/SCI Highly Desired.
  • Strong, proactive engineer who takes the initiative to identify, own and solve customer problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills as well as organizational skill.
