The Remote Sensing Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team in El Segundo, CA has an immediate need for a Senior Systems Engineer with experience with creating conceptual designs and assessing the capabilities of optical, microwave, radar or radiation/charge payloads.  The more diverse payload experience the better but specialist in one of the payload types are also being sought.  This individual will be a Systems Engineer with experience in Department of Defense (DoD) Space-Based Remote Sensing and related Ground systems.  Candidate will provide SE&I support to the SBIRS, Future OPIR and Environmental Monitoring programs of the Space and Missile Systems Center Remote Sensing Directorate (SMC/RS).  Major duties of the position include:

  • Develop requirements for candidate future systems to acquire.
  • Compare future architecture implementation options and quantify relative capabilities.
  • Identify key risks and potential consequence to performance if not mitigated.
  • Either utilize or develop credible payload behavior simulations.
  • Interact with contractor and government leads to ensure that all system requirements are coordinated, scheduled and planned across the SMC/RS Enterprise.
  • Support the customer in defining, capturing, and maintaining the technical, schedule, and cost risk data throughout the system lifecycle as well as developing risk mitigation courses of action and assessing impacts of risks and proposed changes.
  • Collaborating with prime contractors, other support contractors, government civilians, and members of the U.S. Air Force

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. BS in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical engineering or equivalent.
  • TS with the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance
  • 14+ years of strong demonstrated systems engineering, payload design, payload capability modeling and simulation experience.
  • Ability to recommend significant improvements in payload capabilities, resilience to environmental or purposeful disruption or cost reductions.
  • The ability to formulate a logical and efficient plan to mature technologies utilized
  • Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams.   

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Environmental Monitoring and/or SBIRS-specific experience highly desirable.
  • Active TS/SCI Highly Desired
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills as well as organizational skill.
  • Extremely motivated individual who is a self-starter and a team player.
