Engility Corporation is seeking a well-qualified Senior Systems Administrator/Architect to join a team responsible for the IT Strategy and Technology future of a customer’s multiple Wide, Metropolitan, and Local Area Networks (WAN, MAN, and LANs) which span many sites around the world.


The Senior Systems Administrator/Architect would be responsible for leveraging common Systems Engineering Practices and Procedures to enable the realization of successful enterprise-wide IT systems. They will focus on defining customer needs and required functionality early in the development cycle, documenting requirements, then proceed with design synthesis, and system validation. The Engineer/Architect will help to ensure that the customer and stakeholder’s needs are satisfied in a high quality, trustworthy, cost efficient, and schedule compliant manner through-out a System’s Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

They will maintain a diverse set of skills across multiple technical disciplines with recognized expertise in multiple disciplines and possess advanced knowledge of multiple mature and emerging technologies.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support in managing all aspects of the customer’s enterprise IT Architecture Infrastructure across the stack: physical, networking, storage, virtualization, servers, and applications and services.
  • Performs complex systems development and design work that may include design, system development, computer architecture and design, and analog or digital systems engineering, with focus on Performance, Availability, Redundancy, and Information Security (INFOSEC).
  • Constantly monitors and performance tunes new and existing IT solutions in an effort to provide the customer with the best performance and most secure operating platform.
  • Provides Tier 4 escalated support to the organization’s IT Systems Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team.
  • Proactively identify, analyze, and resolve information systems problems.
  • Plans, de-conflicts, and oversees the execution of Operating System (OS), Firmware, Hardware, and Application and Software upgrades and revisions. 
  • Develops systems documentation and drawings for both new and existing IT systems and solutions.
  • Develops advanced PowerShell-based scripts and applications, ranging in complexity from simple to advanced, to increase process and system efficiency with the objective of reducing human intervention and human error on repetitive O&M tasks through Automation and Orchestration.
  • Provides technical guidance, work leadership, and specialized training to less experienced Systems Administrators and Engineers within the customer’s IT Organization. 
  • Works with vendors, resellers, and other organizations to stay current with new and emerging technologies and evaluating them for applicability and feasibility for introduction into the IT enterprise to address on-going project and tasks requirements.
  • Participates in special projects and tasking as required.

Required Qualifications

  • An active TS/SCI clearance with eligibility to obtain a Counter-Intelligence (CI) polygraph post hire
  • DOD 8570 compliance to include CompTIA Security+ CE certification or higher security Information Assurance (IA) certification.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience and in-depth technical working knowledge on the following enterprise-focused IT/INFOSEC concepts:
    • OSI Reference Model
    • Microsoft Active Directory and Domains Services (DNS, NTP, etc.)
    • Server Operating Systems (OS) (Windows and *nix based)
    • Microsoft Windows Desktop OS (Windows 7 and Windows 10).
    • Microsoft High Availability (HA) and Resiliency (Clustering, Availability Groups, etc.)
    • Microsoft Unified Communications (Exchange, Skype for Business, etc.)
    • Microsoft Application Technologies (IIS, SharePoint, etc.)
    • Database Technologies and Concepts (Microsoft SQL Server, etc.)
    • Backup, Archive, and Disaster Recovery
    • Network and Direct Attached Storage (NAS/DAS)
    • System Performance Optimization Tuning
    • System Capacity Right-Sizing, Planning, and Forecasting
    • Virtualization Infrastructure and Security Technologies (Micro-segmentation, etc.)Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI)
    • Software Defined Data Centers (SDDC)
    • Defense Information Security Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
    • Cryptography and Encryption (PKI, TLS/SSL, Ciphers, etc.)
    • INFOSEC Technologies (ACLs, Baselines, Firewalls, etc.)
    • Automation and Orchestration (PowerShell, Python, Puppet, Chef, etc.)
    • Problem Identification, Troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis, and Resolution
    • Systems and Solution Licensing
    • Vendor, Industry, and Technology Best Practices

One or more technical associate level certifications in related focus area technologies:

    • Citrix
    • Microsoft
    • NetApp
    • Nutanix
    • VMware

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and oversight, and product exceptional results.

  • Eagerness and personal self-drive and initiative to learn new technologies and solutions.

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience engineering and architecting Microsoft-based solutions (Exchange, IIS, SharePoint, SQL Server, etc.) within established Microsoft Enterprise architectures (i.e. Active Directory based Services). Hands-on experience is sought for Windows Server 2012 and 2016 platforms.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience maintaining a NetApp ONTAP storage solution.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience maintaining a NetApp E-series storage solution.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience maintaining a private Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform across multiple Data Centers, with hands-on experience with Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV) and the Nutanix Operating System (NOS) 5.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience of deploying and maintaining a Citrix XenDesktop 7 enterprise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) servicing both virtualized desktops and application offerings.
  • 3+ years of experience administering VMware vSphere and ESXi, with hands-on experience with vSphere 6.0 and 6.5.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Cloud Platform and Infrastructure certification.
  • MCSE: Productivity certification.
  • MCSE: Communication certification.
  • Nutanix Platform Professional (NPP) certification.
  • Citrix Certified Professional – Virtualization (CCP-V) certification.
  • NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) certification.
