Description

Engility is recruiting for a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Engineer for one of our programs supporting the FDA. Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Design, install, configure and manage VMware virtualization environment components (vSphere, vSAN for Horizon, Horizon, ThinApp, App Volumes).
  • Participates as an infrastructure engineering representative on engineering teams for the design development; implementation and/or integration of desktop virtualization environments.
  • Ensure virtualization systems are compliant within required security standards. Develop and maintain O&S Standard Operating Procedures for VMware desktop virtualization environment.
  • Develop and implement testing strategies and document results and create SOPs.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with the desktop virtualization environment.
  • Review system and application logs, verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Configure system CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform in a team environment with other Systems Administrators to provide overall operations and maintenance for the Enterprise and DMZ environment.
  • Partner with Systems Engineering and Integration groups in the install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirement.
  • Apply systems and security patches to master images in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Monitor system capacity, storage, memory, and CPU. Test, install, and report the status of patches and hot fixes.



Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years of related experience.
  • Specialized training in software development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated experience with VMware products and technologies (vSphere, vSAN for Horizon, Horizon, ThinApp, App Volumes).
  • Experience developing, optimizing and hardening desktop operating system master images, gold-disks, or templates.
  • Demonstrated understanding of desktop virtualization concepts and strategies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of application virtualization and application streaming concepts and strategies.
  • Prior experience delivering VDI to Thin Client or Zero Client devices.
  • Understanding of the user logon process in VDI and Windows experience with configuration and management of user profiles in a hosted Shared and non-persistent VDI environment.
  • Experience configuring Microsoft Group Policy in a VDI environment.
  • Experience integrating and supporting Microsoft Windows 7 & 10 in a VDI environment.
  • Experience managing and maintaining hypervisor hosts in support of VDI.
  • Demonstrated understanding of block and file-based storage system concepts.
  • Prior experience with storage-area-network based replication products and technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of storage-area-network products and technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of backup, recovery, and replication technologies for virtualized environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and refine server virtualization requirements for customer environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with customers and external teams to gather critical project information.
  • Experience with Application Delivery Controller (ADC) and Global and Server Load balancing in support of VDI environments.
  • Experience using PowerShell scripting to automate task on servers and applications.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting the FDA.
  • Advanced degree in related field.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) in Data Center Virtualization (DCV) and/or Desktop and Mobility (DTM) are desired.
