Senior Staff FSO OC who serves as the Fire Support SME for a 7-person MTC Operations/TSC Exercise Support Team.

Concept: The Senior Staff FSO OC reports directly to the Senior Staff Coordinator, and serves as the Fire Support SME for a Brigade/Battalion-level OC Team and as Senior Mentor and Trainer for a Brigade/Battalion-level commander and staff.  This person serves as a Fire Support Officer OC in order to teach, coach, and mentor a Brigade/Battalion-level Fire Support Officer with the following:

  • Military Decision Making Process (MDMP).
  • Coordinating fire support (lethal and non-lethal) and field artillery assets.
  • Develop with the S3 a concept of fires to support the operation.
  • Supervising company fire support officers.
  • Plan and coordinates, with the S2 and signal officer, the use of electronic warfare and electronic countermeasures as part of fire support.
  • Participate in the targeting process.
  • Maintain current and future operations maps as they pertain to fire support.
  • Maintain status of missions fired and planned.
  • Maintain accurate status of FS assets, to include Close Combat Air and Close Air Support.
  • Monitor and maintains current ammo status for mortars and artillery.
  • Coordinate with higher and lower FSE for additional assets/fire coordination measures.
  • Recommend PIRs to the S2 and S3.
  • Conduct the Fire Support Rehearsal.
  • Write Annex D (Fire Support) and prepared fires products, to include the Scheme of Fires Sketch and Matrix, Target List Worksheet, and Fires Overlay.
  • Prepare to assist in the planning and execution of non-lethal fires/civil-military operations.


  • Familiarization and proficiency with field artillery fire support coordination and communications equipment such as the FIST-DMD and G/VLLD.
  • Enforcement of safety precautions and proper execution of all firing and misfire reduction procedures to minimize risk.
  • Conducts Brigade/Battalion-level AAR.
  • Assists in the planning and development of realistic Unified Land Operations and Combined Arms Live Fire Exercises.
  • Supervises the development and execution of a formal training and certification program; maintains currency and validates OC certification.
  • Supervises employee performance appraisal program to ensure employees are receiving accurate feedback on job performance, potential, and retention prospects.
  • Augments the Training Support Team in support of USARCENT Theatre Security Corporation Plan and must be prepared to deploy anywhere throughout the USCENTCOM AOR.
  • Provides Squad Overmatch foundational training in the areas of Advanced Situational Awareness, Team Development, and Resilience and Performance Enhancement.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the Senior Staff Coordinator.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in preparing and planning maneuver training exercises for a Brigade/Battalion or higher (Infantry/Armor) organization.
  • Combat Training Center experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the military decision making process (MDMP).
  • Thorough knowledge of current Army doctrine, Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs).

Desired Qualifications

  • Former BN/TF Fire Support experience preferred.
  • Former U.S. Army/Marine Corps Infantry/Armor Field Grade Officer (LTC/above) or BCT-level and above Command Sergeant Major preferred
  • Graduate of USASMA/CGSC and/or US Army War College or equivalent.
  • Prior Infantry/Armor CTC (NTC/JRTC/JMRC) Command Sergeant Major.
  • Prior assignment to a maneuver CTC as an Observer/Controller or extensive CTC experience as BLUFOR/OPFOR.
  • Human Performance Enhancement knowledge or experience
  • Low Cost, Low Overhead simulation experience, Decisive Action Brigade and Lower (DABL) preferred.
