Description

Engility is seeking a Senior Epidemiologist to provide consulting, scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to military health clients. Support includes using expertise in SAS® and SQL® programming to conduct analysis of complex quantitative or qualitative military health data; developing and conducting data analysis models to identify appropriate statistical approaches; developing theoretical framework for models based on evidence base; and running preliminary analyses to inform decision making and research activities.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field of study, such as Biostatistics, Statistics, or Health Sciences. MD/DO/PhD degree in medicine, epidemiology, statistics, or related field preferred. Graduate degrees must be from programs approved by a recognized accrediting body in the United States.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in military health plus minimum of five years’ experience in a professional work environment.
  • Solid knowledge base in computer programming (writing and reading) including: detailed knowledge of statistical software including SAS®; familiarity with Oracle® database structures; and experience using SQL®.
  • Experience with DoD health-related databases (i.e., MDR, SADR, SIIDR, CAPER, TMDS, TRAC2ES, and military personnel data) to perform data abstractions and conduct longitudinal analyses.
  • Knowledge of issues related to protection of PHI/PII while in use for analysis and while in storage in approved storage systems.
  • Maintain Data Sharing Agreement with Defense Health Agency in order to access medical record data and fulfill requirements for protection of health information and privacy.
  • Experience in application of scientific research and analysis methods; qualitative and quantitative research methods; and application and use of scientific standards, theories, measurement, testing and evaluation procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of military environments and exposures, and understanding of the implications of research findings to military health care settings.
  • Must be self-directed and have strong oral and written communication abilities, with strong conceptual and systems-thinking abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with DoD senior leadership, research and clinical subject matter experts, clinical providers, and education and training professional staff to develop and execute data abstraction requests and analyses.
  • Assist in developing policy guidance, methodologies, instrumentation, and procedures for clinical and health services application, to include analyzing data and presenting findings for military health operations based on medical records and public health data.
  • Design, write, format, and edit data briefs, fact sheets, tables, figures, and technical reports to present findings and customize as needed for client leadership and senior executive leadership within the MHS.
  • Facilitate discussions with subject matter experts, focus groups, and work groups to analyze challenges and needs to support the development of knowledge translation best practice recommendations and support tools.
  • Update deliverables based on customer, staff, or program manager feedback related to possible gaps, errors, and improvements.
  • Assist professional, support, and administrative staff with the execution of ad hoc tasks (e.g., information papers, testimony prep, taskers, etc.) to meet quick-turnaround requirements without impact to schedule/ other work efforts.
  • Solid working ability to use computer software (Microsoft Office business suite, to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required to prepare reports, briefings, and products
  • Experience with posting and sharing documents in SharePoint

 

Desired Qualifications

 

  • Ability to work on the client site in Falls Church up to 15 hours per week
  • Hands on experience with Military Health System (MHS) medicine, business processes, fiscal controls, policies, operational procedures, and strategic plans.
  • Communicate with the client in an organized and knowledgeable manner, and delivering clear requests for information.
  • Excellent analytic, writing, and communication skills are essential.
  • Meet security requirements for obtaining a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and work with senior policy makers, clinicians, and large working groups.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple timelines and complete tasks quickly within the constraints of clients’ timelines and budgets.
  • Position requires self-direction and exceptional interpersonal
