Description

Engility is seeking Senior Software Developers to be part of a team to develop the Maritime Security Risk Analysis Model (MSRAM) web application; a US Coast Guard mission critical system. You will use your leading edge software development skills to transform the current Microsoft Access-based MSRAM application to a more sustainable, cloud-based and enterprise-friendly system. The USCG relies on MSRAM to examine risks at US ports and along waterways around the country as part of an overarching vulnerability mitigation process. You will support the design and development of a responsive user interface for this data-driven application that utilizes state-of-the-art tools and frameworks.

 

This position requires experience developing complex, performant web user interfaces using modern web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. Prior experience developing single-page applications with Angular and Typescript programming language is highly desirable. Geospatial processing and display experience using tools like ESRI ArcGIS is a plus. Support the selection of other applicable web technologies that improve end-user experience such as CSS preprocessors (Less/Sass), display of charts (D3.js, ng2-charts), UI frameworks and components (Angular Material, Polymer) and more.

 

Applies software engineering principles and methods to assist in performing a variety of tasks related to planning, conducting and coordinating analysis of functional business applications and designing software specifications for cloud-based web applications and web services to meet customer requirements. Conceptualizes, develops and implements a wide variety of program designs. Develops tools, determines capability requirements, influences product design and may recommend modifications or improvements to new or existing applications.

 

Tests, debugs and refines software to meet customer requirements. Prepares required documentation for both program and user-levels. Assists in developing software and documentation standards, measuring performance and identifying opportunities to improve capabilities for future efforts. Provides technical advice on programming applications and consults with customer systems and engineering personnel to define problems and clarify requirements. May assist with cost analysis and justifications for software development efforts.

 

The current web application stack includes:

  • Microsoft SQL Server [Azure SQL Database]
  • ASP.NET Web API (C#)
  • Angular 2
  • Bootstrap v3 plus custom CSS
  • Dapper ORM
  • ESRI ArcGIS JavaScript API

The current development tools/frameworks include:

  • Visual Studio 2015 / Visual Studio Code
  • Visual Studio Team Services (aka Visual Studio Online)
  • Git for source control
  • Karma and Jasmine Test Frameworks for testing JavaScript/Typescript code
  • xUnit for testing .NET code

Other application frameworks and libraries under consideration include:

  • Ngrx store for state management
  • D3.js for reporting, charts and dashboards
  • Webpack for module bundling
  • iText for PDF generation
  • OpenXML SDK for Microsoft Office integration

 

Work location is in Chantilly Virginia, with potential for telecommuting.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead web development activities of major functional segments.
  • Design and development user interfaces.
  • Perform/oversee software configuration management.
  • Support, create and perform unit and integration testing activities.
  • Support establishing and enforcing coding standards.
  • Work as part of a team to develop and verify all elements of the MSRAM web application system

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or similar with 6+ years of front-end web application development experience
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Strong software development skills, including design, implementation, test, deployment and support.
  • Ability to analyze high-level requirements and translate these to overall system-level design to be used for architectural prescription, cost/benefit analysis, and concept development.
  • Experience with technologies at multiple levels of the architecture, including some or all of the following: user interface, applications, database, security and/or network.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong desire to achieve the objective while striving for excellence.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to lead small teams, prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities.
  • Knowledge and experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript / Typescript, Bootstrap, Visual Studio 2015 / Visual Studio Code, Git, and xUnit.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Agile and Scrum software development methodologies are highly desired.
  • Knowledge and experience with Angular is highly desirable.
  • Experience with web APIs, ESRI ArcGIS, Ngrx store, D3.js, Webpack, iText, OpenXML SDK for Office integration, Dapper ORM, and test frameworks is a plus.
