Description

Engility is recruiting for a HPC Support Engineer in support of our NOAA customer on-site at the NOAA – GFDL labs in Princeton, NJ.

 

The duties of the Support Engineer will include, but not be limited to:

  • Provide Primary Support to High Performance Computing Site Lead
  • Provide support for remote HPC systems (Debug workflow, system, and application issues, Optimize HPC user job performance, Develop scripts and procedures for system, job, and process monitoring, Maintain allocation reporting infrastructure, Automate generation of charts of system metrics, Contribute to development of system test infrastructure, Develop test cases based on use scenarios and user requirements)
  • Tiered User Support (Respond to moderately complex customer inquiries (Tier-2), Assist customers in resolving technical problems by providing guidance regarding software and hardware problems, Identify, evaluate, and prioritize customer problems to ensure that inquiries are resolved appropriately, write/update/enhance system documentation concerning problem resolutions and HPC assets)

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Proficiency in  Linux and basic Linux administration
  • Experience with scripting (shell / perl /bash / python/ruby)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new programing languages and technical skills
  • Professional knowledge in one or more physical science fields
  • Working knowledge of remote access methods e.g. VPN, SSH tunneling
  • Excellent customer-facing communication and consultation skills
  • Working knowledge of network file system (NFS)
  • Working knowledge of storage systems and storage controllers (NAS, SAN)
  • Excellent communication skills (with managers and/or scientists)
  • Technical Writing Experience
  • Independent self-starter

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience within in an HPC environment or large server/data center environment
  • Experience with source code control systems i.e. code repositories e.g. SVN, GIT
  • Familiarity with cluster scheduling
